Clean Energy expands LNG infrastructure into Puerto Rico
New projects aim to boost energy security for industrial and power applications.
Clean Energy Fuels has entered the Puerto Rican market with two contracts to design and install liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueling systems, supporting energy resilience for industrial and power generation uses. The projects involve agreements with P.R. Energy Partners and a global healthcare products manufacturer, marking the company’s first LNG infrastructure deals on the island.
Under one contract, Clean Energy will supply and install LNG fueling equipment for a pharmaceutical production facility, which is adopting natural gas to ensure a more reliable energy source for its local operations. The second agreement includes the design and construction of an LNG supply station to fuel a six-megawatt combined heat and power (CHP) plant developed by P.R. Energy Partners to support residential and hospitality operations.
“These projects demonstrate the reliability and scalability of our engineered LNG solutions and will help strengthen energy resilience on the island,” said Sean Columbia, General Manager of CE Technologies at Clean Energy.
Together, the projects will support approximately 10 megawatts of installed power capacity. Clean Energy’s modular LNG systems are designed to deliver both primary and backup energy supply, particularly in regions with constrained grid infrastructure.
