EG Group sells Cooplands bakery business

EG Group has announced the sale of its Cooplands bakery business to a team of Yorkshire-based investors, as another step into its strategic refocusing
Founded in 1885 by Frederick and Alice Coopland, Cooplands operates two bakeries that produce fresh-baked goods distributed through its supply and logistics network to 154 stores, primarily across northeast England and Yorkshire. With more than 1,400 employees, Cooplands is the second-largest bakery chain in the UK.
EG Group continues to sharpen its emphasis on core markets in the US and Europe as it continues to build a global platform for growth in grocery and merchandise, foodservice, and fuel retail.
The new ownership group, comprised of an experienced management team, is positioned to support Cooplands as it enters its next phase of development and growth.
EG Group said the transaction underscores its commitment to streamlining operations and investing in areas where it sees the greatest potential for long-term expansion.
