Emart24 c-stores will sell 'bitcoin meal box' in Korea

The retailer has partnered with Bithumb to let customers earn approximately ₩10,000 when entering the number of the coupon that comes in the meal box.

South Korean convenience store chain Emart24 will launch a new product to enable customers to earn money through cryptocurrency, a ‘bitcoin meal box.’

The company partnered with local cryptocurrency exchange platform, Bithumb, to develop the product. Set to launch by the end of May, the product will cost ₩5,900 (roughly $4) and the retailer aims to sell 30,000 boxes.

According to a report by The Korea Times, customers will be able to receive ₩10,000 in bitcoin when entering the coupon code in the meal box through the Bithumb app. An additional ₩20,000 can also be obtained if they create a NH Nonghyup bank account for bitcoin transactions, according to a company spokesperson who spoke to the portal.

Customers will require a NH bank account to connect to the Bithumb exchange to complete the process and get additional bitcoin.

Emart24 is part of the Shinsegae Group, a firm that focuses on the retail business, operating department stores and large discount store chains, among other ventures in the sector.
