FamilyMart enters Hanoi with first stores in Vietnamese capital
The Japanese convenience retailer has launched its first stores in Hanoi, expanding beyond Ho Chi Minh City and targeting around 20 locations in the capital by the end of the fiscal year.
FamilyMart has begun operations in Hanoi, marking its first expansion into Vietnam's capital city and opening a new chapter in the retailer's growth strategy in the country.
The company started opening stores in Hanoi on August 20, 2026, with two initial locations, and plans to hold an official grand opening ceremony on September 19 at its sixth store in the city, located within the Royal City mixed-use residential and commercial complex.
FamilyMart said the move builds on more than 16 years of experience in Vietnam, where it opened its first store in Ho Chi Minh City in 2009. The retailer currently operates around 200 stores nationwide and ranks among the leading convenience store chains in the Vietnamese market.
The expansion into Hanoi leverages operational expertise developed in Ho Chi Minh City while introducing a dedicated support structure for the new market. FamilyMart has increased the number of expatriate staff assigned to Vietnam and deployed experienced employees from its southern operations to help train staff and adapt store operations to local consumer preferences.
The retailer aims to open approximately 20 stores in Hanoi during the current fiscal year as it accelerates its presence in one of Vietnam's fastest-growing urban markets.
FamilyMart said the Hanoi rollout forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in local communities while continuing to evolve its convenience store offering. The expansion also coincides with the company's 45th anniversary, as it pursues growth initiatives under its new corporate slogan, "Ichiban Challenge," focused on innovation, customer experience and community engagement.
