FamilyMart Taiwan plans to add 150 stores in 2025

Weather was cited as a key performance factor by the board director.

FamilyMart Taiwan is set to expand its footprint by adding 150 new stores this year, up from 82 in 2024, according to Board Director Hsueh Tung-tu.

The announcement was made Tuesday during the launch of Taiwan’s latest immigrant-friendly convenience store, Taiwan News reported. While last year saw a modest pace in openings, Hsueh noted that a greater number of store closures were made to optimize operations, especially in locations impacted by rising rental costs or external economic shifts, as cited by CNA.

The company had previously opened between 200 and 220 stores annually before the COVID-19 pandemic but has since scaled its annual expansion target to 150.

More impactful than economic conditions, Hsueh said, is the weather, which he described as a stronger driver of sales.

The company’s continued expansion underscores consumer confidence in the convenience sector and FamilyMart’s focus on adapting to shifting urban dynamics, while staying resilient against macroeconomic turbulence.
