Gasrec to grow UK biomethane reach with Warrington site
The company has secured approval for a new public-access biomethane refueling station designed to serve up to 1,000 gas-powered trucks per day along the M6 corridor.
Gasrec has received planning permission to build a new biomethane refueling station in Warrington, expanding its UK infrastructure network for gas-powered heavy transport.
Located at Omega Business Park, near key freight routes including the M6 and M62 motorways, the facility is expected to begin construction within the next three months. Once fully operational, the site will have the capacity to refuel up to 1,000 trucks per day.
The project marks Gasrec’s first high-capacity, public-access biomethane station in North West England and is part of the company's broader strategy to expand refueling infrastructure for commercial fleets transitioning away from diesel.
The company currently operates 18 refueling stations across the UK and aims to build infrastructure capable of serving around 6,000 trucks per day by 2027. The company said this would represent a threefold increase in capacity within approximately 18 months.
“The new station at Warrington forms the next step of our strategy to build a national refuelling backbone of state-of-the-art, open-access biomethane refuelling stations,” said James Westcott, Chief Commercial Officer at Gasrec.
The site will also include truck parking facilities to support fleet operators serving the surrounding logistics hubs in the North West. Omega Business Park is a major distribution center with connections to Liverpool, Merseyside and other regional freight corridors.
