GP JOULE, eFarm expand hydrogen bus fleet
From fall 2024, ten more hydrogen buses will be in regular service across North Frisia's regional transport network.
From fall 2024, ten additional hydrogen buses will run in North Friesland (Germany), expanding the transport network fleet from two to twelve vehicles.
GP JOULE continues to support regional energy transition through this new expansion. The buses from manufacturer CaetanoBus use locally produced green hydrogen and will be operated by Autokraft GmbH and Rohde Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH.
20 shareholders and companies are involved in the joint project, eFarming GmbH, including numerous community wind farms and community solar parks.
"Hydrogen buses are significantly quieter and more environmentally friendly than buses with combustion engines. This expansion makes an important contribution to sustainable mobility and the common good in the region," said Sören Nissen, Product Manager for hydrogen buses at GP JOULE HYDROGEN.
More than 3,500 people from North Friesland are indirectly involved in this project, with hydrogen used to power the buses produced by eFarm using electricity from local community wind farms. The buses refuel at the two public eFarm filling stations in Husum and Niebüll.
The operating company GP JOULE is now implementing further hydrogen mobility projects based on the eFarm model in Kiel, Bremerhaven, Waiblingen and Weilheim an der Teck, among others.
