H2 MOBILITY launches GHG quota service for hydrogen station operators

New offer simplifies access to Germany’s greenhouse gas trading system and boosts returns for operators.

H2 MOBILITY has introduced a greenhouse gas (GHG) quota service aimed at helping station operators in Germany access and benefit from the country’s emissions trading system.

The service consolidates avoided CO₂ emissions from multiple operators, manages legal documentation, and times quota sales strategically to strengthen bargaining power. By pooling reductions and handling complex regulatory requirements, H2 MOBILITY aims to enable participation for operators who have previously been excluded due to limited expertise, resources, or emission volumes.

“The GHG quota service eases the burden for hydrogen refueling station operators. As a reliable partner, we handle market access, documentation and sales. This enables maximum returns with minimal effort while supporting the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure,” said Martin Jüngel, Managing Director and CFO of H2 MOBILITY.

Germany’s GHG quota trading system obliges oil companies to reduce emissions or purchase certificates, creating demand for credits generated by renewable transport fuels, including hydrogen. Certificate prices depend on market conditions and rising reduction targets.

Upcoming regulatory changes, such as the planned introduction of a sub-quota for renewable fuels of non-biological origin, are expected to further increase potential revenues for operators.

The initiative strengthens H2 MOBILITY’s broader strategy of providing integrated solutions across the hydrogen value chain, supporting the growth of sustainable mobility in Europe.
