Murphy USA Inc. CFO Galagher Jeff resigns
The former Dollar Tree executive leaves after a short tenure, amid a period of financial pressure and strategic restructuring.
Murphy USA Inc. announced the departure of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Galagher Jeff. The company stated that Jeff’s departure was not the result of any disagreement regarding operations, financial performance, or company practices.
Jeff’s tenure at Murphy USA was relatively brief, after joining in early 2024 coming from Dollar Tree, where he served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Strategy and Chief Transformation Officer.
His resignation comes during a challenging financial period for the company. Murphy USA faced revenue declines in 2024 as it made significant investments in new store development. Last month, the company laid off about 100 corporate employees as part of what it described as “a broader effort to strengthen operational effectiveness and position the company for long-term success.”
The company’s Board of Directors has appointed Donald R. Smith Jr., currently Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer and Treasurer, to serve as interim Chief Financial Officer.
Smith has been with Murphy USA since its 2013 spin-off from Murphy Oil Corporation. He initially served as Vice President and Controller and was designated Chief Accounting Officer for reporting purposes. In 2024, he additionally assumed the role of Treasurer.
Before joining Murphy USA, Smith spent more than 14 years at KPMG LLP, where he held various leadership roles and left as a Senior Manager in the Audit and Assurance Practice.
