Believ has partnered with the East, North and South Ayrshire councils to install more than 600 public chargers, with 614 sockets in total, at around 300 locations across the region, including the Isle of Arran. Under a 15-year contract, the charge point operator will install, run and maintain the network, with work on the first new chargers expected to start in early 2027.

The project combines over £2.8 million from the Scottish Government’s electric vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Fund with more than £15 million in capital committed by Believ. It is being delivered with Transport Scotland and the Scottish Futures Trust. Believ will also take over the existing ChargePlace Scotland chargers in the three council areas.

“I’m delighted that £2.8 million from the Scottish Government will support 600 new EV chargers in Ayrshire,” said Stephen Flynn, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport. Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ, added: “We’re proud to be supporting the region in expanding access to reliable and accessible EV charging across the region.”

South Ayrshire will get around 220 chargers, North Ayrshire about 210 and East Ayrshire around 180. Speeds will range from “standard plus” to rapid charging. Each council area will have at least five accessible locations, and the sites will be prepared for more than 450 future chargers.
