NNPC Retail launches smart self-service station in Abuja
The new facility combines self-service fuel dispensing, EV charging and convenience retail, supporting the retailer's strategy to develop technology-enabled mobility destinations across Nigeria.
NNPC Retail has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station in Abuja, introducing a new retail concept that combines conventional fueling, electric vehicle (EV) charging and convenience services in a single location.
Located on Bill Clinton Drive, the station features a 24-hour self-service fueling system that allows customers to independently select fuel volumes and complete transactions at any time of the day. The facility was developed by NNPC Retail, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service, which provided the site.
The station is equipped with 16 gasoline pumps and two diesel pumps, supported by storage capacity of 180,000 liters of gasoline and 5,000 liters of diesel. It also includes an EV charging facility developed in partnership with Africa Motor Works, an LPG dispensing area, a lubricant service bay and an automated car wash.
NNPC Retail Managing Director Huub Stokman said the concept is designed to address growing demand for value-added services, flexible payment options and access to multiple energy solutions, including EV charging and, in the future, compressed natural gas (CNG).
Powering the facility is a solar energy system with more than 200 kWh of installed capacity. The site also includes space for quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and a convenience store, positioning it as a broader mobility and lifestyle destination rather than a traditional fuel station.
NNPC Retail said it plans to expand the Smart Station concept across Nigeria as part of its strategy to modernize its retail network and enhance customer convenience through technology-driven services.
