OMV scales company-wide AI adoption through dedicated AI hub
Usage has grown from 500 monthly users generating 50,000 prompts to 2,500 users and 250,000 prompts in nice months.
OMV has moved AI adoption beyond isolated pilots to a systematic, company-wide rollout through its AI Hub, an enterprise platform launched in 2025 to bring tailored AI tools to its 18,000-plus employees, from geologists and drill operators to lawyers and data analysts.
The platform, developed under the EmpowerAI program, runs on OpenAI models hosted within OMV's own environment, ensuring confidential data never leaves company systems.
"Colleagues need to know that when they upload confidential documents, everything stays within the OMV sphere," said Lexander Brouwer, who leads OMV's Data, AI & Transformation team.
Starting with a general-purpose assistant called OMVicky, the team has since deployed ten business-specific tools, including a translator for international teams, a legal assistant trained on two terabytes of historical case data, a Regulations Assistant covering roughly 1,500 regulations, and a content assistant for on-brand copywriting.
"If you're searching through 20 complex technical documents, at some point you lose sharpness and consistency. The system runs through it in seconds, allowing time for more critical thinking and creativity," Brouwer said.
Usage has grown from 500 monthly users generating 50,000 prompts in March 2025 to 2,500 users and 250,000 prompts by December. OMV aims to reach 90% of its white-collar workforce and eventually extend tools to blue-collar staff via handheld devices, alongside ongoing training sessions to build AI literacy.
