ORLEN strengthens hydrogen development in Pomerania
The project receives advisory assistance through the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s PDA Plus programme to accelerate investment readiness.
ORLEN has secured expert advisory support for its Amber Hydrogen Valley initiative under the Project Development Assistance Plus (PDA Plus) programme, coordinated by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. The support will provide technical, commercial, and regulatory guidance to optimise development costs and bring the project closer to a final investment decision (FID).
“The PDA Plus support for Amber Hydrogen Valley is, above all, a strong endorsement of the project’s technological and business potential, but also the recognition of ORLEN’s consistent strategy in advancing the hydrogen economy,” said Grzegorz Jóźwiak, Head of ORLEN’s Hydrogen and Synthetic Fuel Technology Development Office. “Our goal is to build a lasting ecosystem that will help drive Poland’s energy transition and strengthen the country’s position on the European low-carbon technology map.”
The advisory process will be led by an international consortium over three months. It will include a feasibility study, analysis of technological and regulatory risks, business model development, and financing readiness assessment, paving the way for the project’s progression to the FID stage.
Amber Hydrogen Valley aims to create a complete regional hydrogen value chain, covering production, storage, distribution, and end-use across industry, energy, transport, and port infrastructure. The initiative is one of four regional Hydrogen Valleys in which ORLEN is actively involved, alongside Mazovian, Lower Silesian, and Silesia–Lesser Poland projects.
Hydrogen is a key pillar of ORLEN’s energy transition strategy. By 2035, the company plans to develop approximately 0.9 GW of electrolysis-based hydrogen production capacity, including around 0.7 GW in Poland.
