Peru: First gas filling station opens in the Cusco region
The first gas filling station in Cusco city is part of a $5 million development plan that will install three more NGV stations in the region.
Peru's Cusco region inaugurated its first natural gas vehicle (NGV) filling station last week. Located in the capital city of Cusco, it is the first gas filling station within a development plan for NGV supply infrastructure that envisages the installation of three other locations in the Cusco region: two in Cusco city, and one in Quillamba.
The first gas filling station in Cusco, located in the district of San Jeronimo, has a 13-meter-high tank and a storage capacity of 80 m3 of LNG.
The development plan for the NGV filling station network in the Cusco region will amount to more than 5 million dollars in investment, according to the actors involved. The Regional Government of Cusco, Consorcio Camisea, LimaGas Natural and other companies are partners in the project.
"The era natural gas in Camisea begins in Cusco with lower emissions of carbon dioxide, a reduction of noise pollution by 50%, and less noise and vibration," said the regional governor of Cusco, Jean Paul Benavente, at the launch event of the first NGV station in Cusco.
The project also involves the free conversion to natural gas of more than 1.000 vehicles powered by gasoline at present. According to the Regional Government of Cusco, 50 out of the more than 400 vehicles registered in the program have been converted so far.
