Petrol Ofisi, one of Turkey's leading fuel companies, has put into service the first seven solar-powered gas stations.
The new solar systems developed by partner company RM Istanbul will meet around 70% of all electricity needs of each station with an installed capacity of 45 kWp and 70 kWp. Each system is capable of meeting the annual electricity needs of approximately 30 houses. It will save around 300 trees and prevent the release of 45 tons of carbon per year. In total, for seven stations Petrol Ofisi has successfully installed 330 kWp in power while saving 1,820 trees and 282 tons of carbon per year.
The first solar-powered station of Petrol Ofisi was put into operation at the ceremony in Bodrum Ortakent. The ceremony was attended by CEO of Petrol Ofisi Selim Siper, company executives, RM Istanbul's Chairman Mustafa Akinci, CEO of Solarcati Utku Korkmaz, Solarcati executives and Bodrum District Governor Bekir Yılmaz in an event hosted by Petrol Ofisi dealers Pasalilar Petrol and Mustafa Pasali.
Both companies signalled how the solar-powered gas station is a first of a kind in terms of its particular features. The gas station with solar roof has been approved within the new regulations. It supplies electricity to the grid as it has the advantage of using the electricity generated during the day at night.
Selim Siper, CEO of Petrol Ofisi, stated that gas stations with solar roofs were one of the best examples for reducing carbon footprint. He said: “First of all, this gas station inaugurated by us has accomplished a project that complies with the standards and spirit of Petrol Ofisi. We are a company doing its business in the best way with the highest quality, and a company which is leading the way, setting an example, and breaking new grounds”.
Mustafa Akinci, CEO of RM Istanbul, said: “The main advantage of the solar energy is that it is a renewable clean source of electricity. As a solution partner of Petrol Ofisi, we are happy to provide solar technology at their gas stations.”
Six solar powered gas stations were completed in 2020, one installation is still ongoing and will be completed by RM Istanbul & Solarçati later this year.
