Puma Energy enters CNG market in Tanzania
Company plans four more sites, including Africa’s largest CNG mother station, as part of a cleaner energy push.
Puma Energy has officially entered Tanzania’s compressed natural gas (CNG) market with the launch of its first hybrid retail station. Located in Dar es Salaam, the new site is the company’s first to offer CNG alongside petrol, diesel, LPG, lubricants, and supermarket services.
The multi-fuel facility positions Puma Energy as a key player in Tanzania’s evolving fuel landscape, where demand for lower-emission alternatives is steadily rising. In addition, the move is part of a broader CNG rollout, with four new stations set to open in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, including what is expected to become Africa’s largest CNG mother station in Tegeta.
A second phase of expansion is already under consideration, targeting new locations in the Coast and Morogoro regions, and potentially Dodoma via supply from the Standard Gauge Railway.
Puma Energy has invested more than $24 million in building its CNG infrastructure as part of its strategy to support Tanzania’s shift away from imported fuels. Managing Director Fatma Abdallah said that the company is also expanding its LPG operations to Mwanza and Arusha by the end of the year.
