Reliance Oil buys six Shell sites in Pennsylvania

SAC exits convenience retail after four decades operating the in the Pennsylvania market.

Reliance Oil has completed the purchase of six Shell-branded convenience stores from SAC Inc, a long-running operator in central Pennsylvania, marking SAC’s departure from the convenience-store trade after more than 40 years.

The deal covers only SAC’s Shell-branded retail locations and the Shell wholesale component of its wider portfolio, according to details released by the parties involved.  Ash Patel, Reliance Oil’s vice-president and chief financial officer, said the sites are “a natural fit” alongside Reliance’s existing footprint in the state.

The acquired stores are in Pennsylvania, including sites in Bedford, Everett, Breezewood and New Cumberland, expanding Reliance’s network in and around key travel corridors.  Selinsgrove-based Reliance Oil also operates convenience and fuel retail locations across New Jersey, North Carolina, Indiana and Florida.

SAC is among several businesses founded by Skyles Calhoun from the 1970s onward, and the family said it chose to step away from convenience retail to focus on its other ventures.
