RUBiS Energy Uganda appoints William Fillet as new MD
Company says will drive its next phase of growth and innovation in the country’s energy sector.
RUBiS Energy Uganda has appointed William Fillet as its new Managing Director, a move the company says will drive its next phase of growth and innovation in the country’s energy sector. Fillet, who has more than 20 years of experience in the industry, takes over from Olivier Gatera, who is moving to a new role within RUBiS Energy East Africa.
The French-owned multinational entered the Ugandan market in 2019 after acquiring Kobil and Delta Petroleum, giving it an immediate network of service stations. Since then, the company has rebranded its outlets, modernised infrastructure and introduced new products, seeking to position itself as a key player in Uganda’s downstream fuel and energy market.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ dinner in Kampala where his appointment was announced, Fillet pledged to focus on expanding RUBiS’s footprint while deepening efforts in sustainability. He highlighted the company’s clean energy solutions, including its Ultra Tec fuel technology and RUBiS Gas, alongside plans to expand community engagement and invest further in staff development. “Our mission is to provide energy solutions for everyone and be a driving force for progress and development,” he said.
His predecessor, Gatera, reflected on achievements during his tenure, which included expanding the network to more than 70 service stations and 26 Enjoy-branded convenience stores, and launching digital tools such as the Rubis Card and mobile app. Olivier Sabrié, CEO of RUBiS Energies East Africa, thanked Gatera for his contribution and said Fillet’s strategic vision made him well placed to guide the Ugandan arm of the company into its next phase.
RUBiS Energy Uganda continues to face a competitive landscape as demand for reliable and affordable fuel grows alongside pressure to adopt cleaner energy solutions. Fillet’s appointment signals the company’s intent to balance expansion with a stronger emphasis on sustainability and innovation in one of East Africa’s key energy markets.
