Rutter’s creates new sports bar concept for c-stores

The retailer has developed a new model featuring a dedicated 21-and-over bar, lounge, multiple TVs, and video gaming terminals.

Rutter’s is developing a new concept for its convenience stores focused on entertainment and a bigger size, featuring a dedicated 21-and-over bar and lounge.

The company announced the opening of two new locations that go beyond the brand’s traditional c-store model to offer an extensive selection of alcoholic beverages, multiple TVs, and video gaming terminals. According to a report by C-Store Dive, the chain aims to blend entertainment with convenience through this new concept.

This is part of the retailer’s latest efforts in increasing store sizes to accommodate expanded amenities, including enhanced foodservice stations and beer caves.

While many of Rutter’s locations already feature adult-only gaming areas, the new stores will take it a step further with an “extensive list of canned cocktails, beer, and wine,” plus live sports tickers and games playing on large TV screens.

Beyond the bar, customers will still find its signature offerings, including its fresh food program, beer caves, a full range of c-store essentials, and a fuel forecourt.

As Rutter’s continues experimenting with store design and amenities, it is also preparing for its first expansion outside Pennsylvania. The company plans to enter Virginia and Delaware as part of its long-term goal of reaching 130 stores by 2028.
