Ruud van Munster appointed as CEO of SPAR Holding B.V.
Experienced executive will look to push SPAR’s growth trajectory and further strengthen its market position.
SPAR Holding B.V. has announced that Ruud van Munster will take over as CEO on May 1, 2025, succeeding John van der Ent, who steps down after seven years.
Van Munster’s appointment marks a new phase for the company, known for its strong presence in the convenience retail sector. With extensive experience in both food and non-food retail, he is well-positioned to build on SPAR’s growth trajectory and further strengthen its market position.
Van Munster, an experienced retail executive with a background at Shell, Detailresult, and DA, brings expertise in supporting independent entrepreneurs. “SPAR is an iconic Dutch brand with great potential, and I look forward to contributing to its success,” he said.
“After 26 years as CEO in various retail companies, it’s time to take a step back. Leading SPAR’s transition into the Netherlands’ top convenience retailer has been an incredible experience,” said Van der Ent, who officially leaves on February 1.
With approximately 13,000 stores in 48 countries, SPAR is one of the world's largest food retailers In The Netherlands, there are 450 independent SPAR stores.
