Slovakia: Shell brings mobile payments to car wash sites

Customers in Slovakia will now be able to pay for the car wash services at two Shell sites with their mobile phones.

With mobile payments at Shell dispensers available since May 2017, the international fuel retailer has now expanded the MasterpassTM digital wallet services to include car washes. Two Shell sites in Kosice and Bratislava will now accept smartphone payments for car wash customers.

Through the system, developed by Mastercard and Shell, a car driver only scans the QR code placed on the car wash and selects a wash program in the application. Once it is paid, it gets the generated code and then enters the control panel, according to a Shell press release.

"We are very pleased that we have again been able to bring technological innovation to Slovak customers, which will speed up and facilitate our services. We believe that customers have the option of paying from the car for washing their cars. In cooperation with Mastercard, we are endeavoring to increase comfort when visiting our service stations, and the Masterpass Mastercard digital wallet offers a safe and technologically advanced solution to pay for washing programs in this regard,” said Ján Čapský, Director of Shell Service Network in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic.

The MasterpassTM app can be used in most of the more than 65 Shell gas stations in Slovakia as well as thousands of other retailers in the country.
