SPAR Ireland to add 30 stores by 2028
Convenience retailer unveils three-year €60 million strategy for national expansion and innovation.
SPAR Ireland has announced a new €60 million strategy aimed at accelerating growth and reinforcing its position as one of the country’s top-performing convenience retail groups.
Following a record-breaking year with €1.3 billion in retail sales in 2024, the company projects a 5% increase year-on-year. The cornerstone of the brand’s new strategy is a three-year expansion plan to increase its store network from 420 to 450 locations nationwide.
This expansion will be driven by a robust retailer recruitment programme and an investment of more than €30 million in store development.
"Despite broader macro-economic headwinds, our focus on category leadership and retail excellence ensures our partners are well-positioned for continued success," said John Moane, Group Chief Executive of BWG Group, which owns SPAR Ireland.
Another element of the new strategy is the launch of the Next Gen Retailer Programme, an entrepreneurship initiative designed to cultivate future retail leaders. In addition, the company's growth strategy is also placing a strong emphasis on food innovation, with the appointment of Niamh Preston in the new role of Category & Innovation Director.
SPAR Ireland plans to elevate its fresh food ranges, including premium coffee and ready-to-eat meal solutions, as it seeks to meet evolving consumer expectations and capture a larger share of this market in Ireland.
