St1 expands heavy-duty biogas network to nine stations in Finland
New LBG sites in Liperi and Imatra strengthen coverage along key transport corridors and support low-emission trucking.
St1, in partnership with biomethane specialist St1 Biokraft, has expanded its heavy-duty biogas refueling network in Finland with the opening of new liquefied biogas (LBG) stations in Liperi and Imatra. The additions bring the company’s national network to a total of nine LBG stations, reinforcing infrastructure for low-emission freight transport.
The new sites are strategically located to improve fuel availability along key transport routes in Eastern Finland, enabling biogas-powered trucks to operate more efficiently over long distances. The expansion is part of a broader effort to build a comprehensive refueling network that supports the transition away from diesel in the heavy-duty segment.
“For heavy-duty transport to genuinely reduce emissions, the fuel must be available where transport flows are,” said Mikko Reinekari, Head of Sales Finland at St1. He noted that the new stations represent a practical step toward improving accessibility and making biogas a viable everyday option for logistics operators.
The network builds on a series of recent openings across Finland, including locations in Iittala, Mäntsälä, Halikko, Hirvaskangas, Vantaa, Iisalmi and Liminka. Further expansion is planned for 2026, with additional LBG stations expected in Riihimäki, Pori, Nurmo and Vantaa, alongside compressed biogas (CBG) stations at other sites.
St1 aims to develop approximately 20 LBG refuelling points nationwide by the end of 2028, reflecting growing demand for gas-powered heavy-duty vehicles. According to the company, adoption of gas trucks is accelerating, with record growth in registrations and increased investment from transport operators.
