Tesco opens its 2000th Express store in the UK
The retailer will celebrate the milestone with a special award from its Community Grants Programme and dondate 2,000 meals to local schools.
Tesco has announced the opening of its 2,000th Express store in Lion Yard shopping center, located in Cambridge.
The retailer first launched the Express format in 1994 with the new, smaller format designed to bring value to more customers in more locations and has now expanded the format with nearly 80% of the UK now within 10 minutes of an Express store.
The newest location will create 20 new jobs and serve customers in Cambridge city center with on- the-go lunch options and dinner. To celebrate this milestone, the company is making a special award from its Community Grants Programme of £2,000 to local charities and will donate 2,000 meals to local schools.

The store will donate surplus food via the Tesco Community Food Connection scheme run in partnership with FareShare, a food redistribution charity.
