TotalEnergies, Tikehau Capital to expand EV charging in Benelux
The initiative positions the two companies as key partners for municipalities navigating the shift to cleaner transport.
TotalEnergies and Tikehau Capital have unveiled a new joint investment platform aimed at accelerating the rollout of public electric‑vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Belgium and the Netherlands. Announced on Wednesday, the initiative positions the two companies as key partners for municipalities navigating the shift to cleaner transport while strengthening TotalEnergies’ foothold in one of Europe’s most advanced EV regions.
The 50–50 partnership will focus on expanding existing public charging concessions already operated by TotalEnergies in major cities, as well as competing for new tenders as local authorities scale up infrastructure. TotalEnergies will oversee development, operation and maintenance of the charge points, which will run exclusively on certified renewable electricity.
With more than 9,500 charging points in Belgium and 18,000 in the Netherlands, the French energy group is already among the leading public‑charging operators in Benelux.
Mathieu Soulas, Senior Vice President for New Mobilities at TotalEnergies, said the partnership would “accelerate the deployment of public charging infrastructure” in two of Europe’s most established EV markets. Tikehau Capital’s Chief Investment Officer for Private Equity, Emmanuel Laillier, described the initiative as a natural extension of the firm’s strategy to support infrastructure driving the energy transition.
