Turkish market shows resiliance at Petroleum Istanbul 2022
After three years, Turkey's biggest event for the fuel retail industry was back in action. More convenience, installing solar power and digitization were some of the key topics.
Despite the difficult economic context, the Turkish market showed its resilience last month at Petroleum Istanbul 2022. The unique event that takes place in Istanbul every two years gathered petroleum companies, suppliers and dealers under one roof.
Over three days, 276 exhibitors and 33,147 visitors walked the halls of Petroleum Istanbul and Gas & Power Network 2022. Eleven different countries were represented at the event including professionals from the U.S., Germany, France, Italy and the Côte d'Ivoire. For the first time in its history, the trade show took place three years after the previous edition. Organizers were pleasantly surprise to see that the number of visitors and exhibitors had increased by 6% and 10%, respectively, compared to the 2019 edition.
The main topics discussed at conferences were the installation of solar power at petrol stations, next generation POS systems and electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. At an organized session, dealers were able to ask associations and industry leaders about some of the challenges they currently face.
“Petroleum Istanbul has continued to be a platform where all stakeholders of the sector are gathered. Exhibitors had the chance to introduce new products, services and technologies to key players in the sector. Petroleum Istanbul is one of the most important trade fairs for the energy sector connecting Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia. I believe that we are fulfilling this position successfully,” says Mustafa Akinci, Chairman of Enerji Fuarcilik.
The Turkish market has faced a complicated period due to the effects of COVID-19, high inflation and now the impact of the Ukrainian conflict. Despite this context, leading brands like Petrol Ofisi, Opet and Shell continue to advance in the transition to cleaner fuels and a complete convenience offering.
“The pandemic has accelerated digitalization and the transformation of the energy market – keeping pace with this process has become crucial for all stakeholders in the energy market,” adds Akinci.
With attendees branding the event a success, the organizing team have decided to plan the next edition for 2023. They will focus on bringing those companies that still faced COVID-19 restrictions while continuing to explore the role of digitalization and new technologies.
