U.S. Treasury grants NIS special license until January 2026
Serbian energy company resumes operations under extended authorization.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has issued a special license to NIS, allowing the company to continue operational activities until January 23, 2026. The license enables NIS to maintain business operations, contracts, and agreements related to its subsidiaries, including restarting refinery processing, importing crude oil, and conducting transactions essential for supply security and technical maintenance.
Sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury on NIS took full effect on October 9, 2025. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) also granted a separate license to shareholders and stakeholders to negotiate changes in ownership structure, valid until March 24, 2026.
The Serbian energy company previously submitted an updated request for removal from the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list on September 28, a process described as lengthy and complex.
The company expressed gratitude to Serbian authorities and domestic and international partners for their support, emphasizing that uninterrupted operations are critical for Serbia’s energy stability and reliable supply of petroleum products.
