USA: Pilot Flying J rolls out new express locations

Pilot Flying J is starting 2018 with the roll out of its new Pilot Express concept, a smaller format than its traditional locations that will offer them more flexibility when choosing a location.

After opening eight full-sized travel centres in 2017, Pilot Flying J is targeting expansion through its new, smaller concept, according to to Brian Ferguson, vice president and chief merchant for Pilot Flying J.

The Pilot Express stores are “still travel centers, with diesel lanes, just a much smaller format and total site layout,” Ferguson said. “They’re focused on food, speed and fantastic customer service.”

So far the retailer has opened four Express locations and is in the works for another in Florida – more will open throughout 2018, reports CSP Daily News

Pilot Express locations “put food front and centre, with homestyle meals, fresh salads, made-to-order sandwiches, grab and go, premium beverages and coffees—those are really the hallmarks of the new concept,” said Shannon Johnson, the chain’s new vice president of food innovation.

The company will also be opening more travel centres this year.
