Wales Government backs new EV charging venture with £2.18m
Electra Nest joint venture to deploy ultra‑fast charging sites across the country via Development Bank support.
The Development Bank of Wales has invested £2.18 million in Electra Nest, a new joint venture established to acquire, build and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging sites across Wales. The funding package, made up of debt and equity from the Wales Flexible Investment Fund, will support three initial sites in Pembroke Dock, Pyle Garden Centre and Pentre Awel near Llanelli, the latter of which is already operational.
Electra Nest is a partnership between the Development Bank of Wales, Nest EV, and Sustainable Energy Group. Nest EV designs and maintains EV charging infrastructure and aims to establish a dedicated corridor of charging sites across South Wales along the M4. The company will deploy microgrid, battery‑based charging technology to reduce reliance on large grid connections while enabling ultra‑fast charging speeds.
Christian Roberts, Director at Nest EV and co‑founder of Electra Nest, said: “Electra Nest is about doing things differently… We’re building a charging network that’s futuristic, data‑led and genuinely affordable without being greedy.”
Wales’ Economy Secretary Rebecca Evans said the investment shows how government funding can drive innovation, adding: “Electra Nest combines local expertise with cutting‑edge technology to deliver the charging infrastructure Wales needs.”
EV adoption in the UK continues to accelerate, with sales rising 28.9% between January and October 2025 and representing 22.4% of new cars sold. Electra Nest aims to meet this growing demand by expanding its network across Wales in partnership with local authorities and developers.
