Air Products has expanded its hydrogen transport infrastructure in the Port of Rotterdam, combining hydrogen-powered trucks with a new hydrogen refueling station to support lower-emission deliveries of industrial gases.

The initiative is designed to help industrial customers reduce transport-related emissions while maintaining existing logistics operations. The refueling station is supplied through Air Products’ hydrogen network in Botlek and includes hydrogen certified under the European Union’s Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) framework.

According to the company, the solution is already being used within customer contracts to support efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions associated with transportation. Dutch energy infrastructure operator Gasunie is among the organizations receiving industrial gas deliveries using hydrogen-powered trucks under the program.

The refueling station is located in Europe’s largest port and is intended to support the broader deployment of zero-emission transport across the regional logistics ecosystem. The company said the investment also strengthens Rotterdam’s position as a hydrogen hub, supported by existing industrial activity and transport infrastructure.

The hydrogen trucks are operated by Schenk Tanktransport and are being used to deliver industrial gases to Air Products customers at multiple locations. The rollout comes as regulatory measures, including the Netherlands’ truck toll introduced in July 2026, encourage the adoption of lower-emission freight transport technologies.

Air Products is also continuing to expand its hydrogen infrastructure in the region. Earlier this year, the company announced a key construction milestone for its liquid hydrogen plant in the Port of Rotterdam. Scheduled to begin operations in 2027, the facility is expected to become the largest liquid hydrogen production plant in Europe.
