Aldi to launch petrol stations in Germany
German discount retailer Aldi Süd is set to open a network of petrol stations in southern Germany
Aldi is partnering with FE-Trading, an Austrian operator of gas stations, to enter the fuel retailing market across a a number of cities in Southern Germany, according to European Supermarket Magazine citing German newspaper
Ten stations are expected to open beside Aldi Süd stores in Munich, Nurember, and Stuttgart by the end of the year.
The retailer wants to be a one-stop shop to attract more shoppers and drivers, including those who own electric vehicles.
Electric chargers, in cooperation with energy firm Innogy, will be expanded to these new stations, reports Handelsblatt.
If the petrol station venture turns out to be successful, Aldi Süd plans to open 300 gas stations.
