All stations will have to install EV chargers in Oman
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion has issued a new resolution making all fuel retailers install charging equipment in compliance with the Authority for Public Services Regulation standards.
Last Sunday, Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion issued Ministerial Resolution No. 615/2023, which makes mandatory for all service stations to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging capabilities.
The regulation is in compliance with standards set by the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), according to a Zawya report. This is in line with the country’s commitment to achieving zero carbon neutrality by 2050.
According to The Oman Times, non-compliance underscores a penalty structure, which involves a written warning for initial offenders followed by an administrative fine of OMR 1,000 for repeated violations. This amount increases up to OMR 3,000 in the case of persistent violations.
The government specified that Oman currently has 400 EVs on the road and aims to expand charging infrastructure across the territory. Currently, there are 100 charging points throughout the nation.
In turn, the MInistry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport has also announced its initiative to develop more EVs within the Special Economic Zone in Duqm.
As of the end of 2022, there were 676 service stations in the Sultanate of Oman.
