American Airlines, Neste to jointly explore renewable fuel option for aviation industry
American Airlines and renewable fuel producer Neste entered into an agreement to explore renewable fuel in further reducing carbon emissions, according to a company release.
The two companies will undertake complementary efforts to promote and commercialize High Freeze Point HEFA (HFP-HEFA) renewable jet fuel, which is currently under consideration for approval.
Neste's renewable jet fuel technology has been tested and proven in thousands of commercial flights and at the same time offers low-carbon solutions, helping the aviation industry meet its emission goals.
One ambitious target of the industry is a 50 percent reduction of net aviation CO2 emissions by 2050.
Meanwhile, American Airlines have renewed its fleet, investing more than $18 billion, to reduce its carbon footprint.
"We believe commercially viable renewable fuels have the potential to play an important role in helping American further reduce emissions beyond our significant investment in fuel efficient aircraft," said Steve Johnson, American's Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
