Applegreen continues with its U.S. expansion
Irish retailer acquires seven convenience stores from Columbia-based Carolina Convenience Corp.
Applegreen plc and Petrogas Global Ltd. have acquired seven convenience stores and a wholesale fuels distribution business from Carolina Convenience Corp.
Carolina Convenience operated eight S-Mart c-stores in Columbia, S.C., and supplied dealers primarily in the Columbia market with a few dealers in eastern South Carolina, reports CSP Daily News.
The S-Mart convenience stores sell BP and Exxon branded fuels with one of them also co-branded with a Hardee’s restaurant, which will continue to be operate by Carolina Convenience after the transaction is closed.
The Columbia-based retailer is offloading most of its c-stores and fuels business to focus on its Hardee’s restaurants and other businesses.
This represents another step forward in AppleGreen’s expansion into the U.S. c-store market. Last year the Irish fuel and convenience retailer crossed over the Atlantic with the acquisition of 42 locations from Bob Brandi.
Founded in 1992, Dublin-based Applegreen operates 274 c-stores and gas stations in Ireland and the United Kingdom, and it now has 68 locations in the United States.
