Australia: Fuel retailers to expand service offering
Australia's fuel retailers are about to reshape the convenience market by offering customers a new range of services from healthy meals, or regular consumer goods to a haircut.
The push by fuel retailers to become complete one-stop shops is being led by Caltex Australia in an effort to dispute the country´s two largest supermarket chains, reported the Herald Sun.
Other fuel operators have followed suit by expanding their food and drinks offerings and weighing up new business opportunities such as e-commerce. Coles has been trying to turn its service stations into “small supermarkets” for quite some time, according to a company spokesperson.
Caltex customers might be able to use petrol stations as pick-up points for online shopping. Users would purchase items or services such as dry-cleaning from the web or via mobile phone apps and pick-up the goods at their nearest gas station.
