Australia: Victoria gas stations to remove discounts from prices boards
Australian gas stations will be banned from displaying discounted prices on Victoria's fuel boards.
Supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths will be affected by the ban after several motorists complained. The state governments and RACV agreed the some drivers who failed to see the detail were being lured into the gas stations, reported the Herald Sun.
With the new rules the discounted prices will have to be completely removed from the display boards – a law already in place in South Australia and New South Wales.
“Fuel can chew up a huge amount of a family’s budget each week. When Victorians are pulling into the bowser we want them to do so on the basis of the real price of fuel so they can make informed decisions about when and where they want to buy petrol,” said Consumer Affairs Minister Jane Garrett.
