Ban on diesel and petrol cars OKd by Dutch parliament
The lower house of the Dutch parliament approved the proposal to prohibit the sale of petrol and diesel-powered cars in the Netherlands by 2025, according to The Guardian.
The proposal would allow the continued use of existing diesel and petrol cars but would prevent the sale of future ones so as to shift to electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
The bill is still pending for Senate ratification to make it legally binding.
According to Auto World News, similar plans have been proposed in other countries such as the phasing out of private cars in Oslo, Norway by 2019, diesel car ban in Paris, France by 2020, emission penalties in the United Kingdom by 2020, and the large diesel car ban already in place in New Delhi, India.
