Barcelona pushes gas stations outside of city centre
New urban regulations will require new sites to be located near industrial areas while all city stations will have to install EV chargers.
Barcelona’s Town Hall has unveiled an urban plan that will ban the opening of new gas stations in the centre of the Catalan city. The sites will have to be set-up near industrial areas and marine ports, reports El País.
As part of the plan for Areas with Low Emissions in 2020, which will ban the circulation of high contaminating vehicles inside of the city, Barcelona is also moving future gas stations outside of the city centre. New sites will have to be built at a maximum distance of 250 metres from major roundabouts, industrial areas and portuary areas.
In addition, all 105 gas stations currently operating in Barcelona, as well as those of new construction, will have two years to install a minimum of one electric vehicle charger.
