BP okay to use Woolworths fuel discounts, says ACCC
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has proposed allowing the use of Woolworths fuel discounts at BP petrol stations once the energy successfully acquires the supermarket giant.
The consumer watchdog ACCC claims “some public benefits” to grant permission for BP gas stations to participate in Woolworths' Rewards Loyalty Program and accept shopper dockets, the association stated in a draft decision.
“We believe giving consumers more opportunities to redeem shopper docket discounts and earn and redeem points through Woolworths' loyalty program will likely result in some public benefits,” said Rod Sims.
The ACCC also said that they will allow Woolworths programs at BP stations as long as the acquisition goes ahead and the discounts do not exceed four cents per litre.
Last year, Woolworths sold its chain of gas stations to BP plc for AUS$1.8 billion ($1.3 billion).
