BPCL furthers e-mobility efforts establishing battery swapping services
The Indian retailer has partnered with VoltUp to install 650 swapping stations across 50 cities in India.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation announced plans to establish battery swapping stations across its retail footprint in India.
The retailer will collaborate alongside VoltUp – a Mumbai-based start-up – to install 650 swapping sites throughout 50 cities in the next three years. The tech company has already introduced the equipment at the brand’s outlets in Mumbai and will install 150 swapping stations across the country this year.
According to news site Carwale, BPCL aims to establish a network of smart swapping locations every three-four kilometers in densely populated cities. After Mumbai, next cities in line for the rollout territories such as Delhi NCR, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Kolkata among others.
This partnership seeks to cater to over 45,000 electric two and three-wheelers per day in its three-year plan. VoltUp intends to offer customers a similar experience to refueling at the station thanks to a battery swap service that can be completed within a minute, thus ensuring minimal downtime for drivers.
Stations are planned to offer complete maintenance as well as service support for the batteries. They will also be monitored to maintain charging temperatures and cell balancing to achieve higher efficiencies.
