Canada funds 6 CNG stations along the Trans-Canada Highway
Envoy Energy receives a C$6 million (US$4.8mn) investment for the installation of six natural gas stations on the Prairies and in northern Ontario.
The Department of Natural Resources Canada announced a C$6 million (US$4.8mn) investment to Envoy Energy for the installation of six compressed natural gas (CNG) stations along the Trans-Canada Highway. The new refuelling stations will be deployed evenly between the Prairies and northern Ontario.
This investment expands the number of natural gas stations along key freight corridors funded by the federal government to 22.
The stations on the Prairies will be located at existing gas stops in Redcliff, Alberta; Swift Current, Saskatchewan; and Prawda, Manitoba. In northern Ontario, the sites will be located at existing gas stations in Nipigon, Hearst and Cochrane.
All stations will include on-site storage, says the press release.
Federal funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment, which is investing to establish natural gas refuelling stations along key transportation routes.
These initiatives are part of Canada’s strengthened climate plan, ‘A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy’, which proposes to further accelerate zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) adoption through an additional C$150 million ($119.11mn) for infrastructure and an additional C$287 million ($227.89mn) for purchasing incentives for Canadians.
