Canada: Shell looks for alternative fuel supply for out-of-gas Edmonton service stations
After a number of Shell Canada gas stations in Edmonton ran dry this week, the fuel retailer is looking for alternative sources of supply, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Due to the temporary shutdown of the company’s Scotford Refinery, in the Western province of Alberta, Shell retailers have run out of fuel, or have very limited supply left.
Shell operates 32 service stations in Edmonton. By Tuesday only 10 of them had fuel supply; while currently around half them are running dry.
“With regard to the fuel shortage, we’re working daily to resolve the problem, looking high and low to see where we can find product to get to our retailers,” said Cameron Yost, spokesman for Shell Canada Limited.
According to the company the shutdown of the plant was unplanned. “A few unforeseen things came up. It wasn’t any one thing and so we made the decision to conduct some maintenance,” he said.
Shell Canada still hasn’t specified where it is looking to get the extra fuel from.
“We know that this is an inconvenience for our customers and we appreciate their patience as we work hard to resolve the shortages,” Yost explained.
