Canelo Álvarez to open 100 gas stations in Mexico
In an interview with American media, the boxing king announced plans for ‘Canelo Energy’ in his home country.
Boxing’s pound for pound king Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez plans to open 90 to 100 gas stations in Mexico as he expands his business empire.
Canelo Álvarez, the Mexican boxing champion, spoke of his plans to enter the fuel retailing sector in an interview with Graham Bensinger. The network would initially compromise around 90 stations operating under the ‘Canelo Energy’ banner.
“I’m going to open between 90 and 100 stations here in Mexico, they will be called ‘Canelo Energy.’ When people fuel up, everything will be Canelo’s – that’s my biggest challenge,” said the boxing superstar.
The Mexican fuelling market continues to welcome more players as Pemex’s share of the market reduces. With Canelo Álvarez being the most popular sports personality in Mexico, consumers could take to his brand.
Canelo Álvarez is fighting Billy Joe Saunders for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) championship on May 8.
