Carol Howle named BP deputy CEO as Meg O’Neill reshapes leadership
Howle will help steer the company’s portfolio review and long‑term strategy as O’Neill sets a clearer direction for the company.
BP has appointed Carol Howle as deputy chief executive officer, strengthening the leadership team as new CEO Meg O’Neill moves to streamline strategy and align the company around long‑term goals. The appointment is effective immediately and adds a broader strategic remit to Howle’s existing responsibilities.
Howle, who continues to oversee BP’s supply, trading and shipping (ST&S) division, will now also lead the company’s portfolio review and strategy development beyond its 2027 targets. As part of the shift, the energy giant’s strategy and sustainability team will report directly to her.
The move reflects O’Neill’s early priorities since assuming the CEO role. “As I step into my new role I am committed to providing clear direction and consistency so our company can move forward with confidence. To support this, Carol will oversee the ongoing portfolio review and long-term strategy development beyond our 2027 targets,” O’Neill said. She added that she looks forward to working closely with Howle “to deliver a simpler, stronger, more valuable BP to maximize value for our shareholders.”
Howle brings 25 years of experience in the company, having served as EVP of ST&S since 2020 and as interim CEO in December 2025. Her expanded role signals a coordinated leadership structure aimed at reinforcing stability, operational discipline and long‑term value creation under O’Neill’s direction.
