China mulls banning fossil fuel vehicles
After Britain and France laid plans to ban sale of vehicles on petrol and diesel vehicles, China might follow suit.
China's vice minister of industry and information technology Xin Guobin disclosed that researchers have been looking into a timetable to phase out production and sales of fossil fuel cars, reports Chinese news agency Xinhua.
No details on the timeframe have been provided, but the country has already pledged to reduce “emissions per unit of GDP by 60-65 % from 2005 levels by 2030 and further increase non-fossil energy use in total consumption to about 20 percent”.
The Chinese government has also supported the sale of new energy vehicles (NEV) through tax cuts, discounts, and ordering government organizations to buy NEVs instead.
