China’s Weichai Power ties up with Germany’s Bosch to develop fuel cell cars in China
China’s state-owned vehicle manufacturer Weichai Power has signed a strategic agreement with German electronics and engineering firm Bosch to develop hydrogen fuel cells and related technology in China, reports Caixin.
Weichai and Bosch also agreed to cooperate in marketing the fuel cell cars.
The partnership may obtain significant subsidies from the Chinese government as the country seeks to develop new technologies for export and combat air pollution.
Lack of infrastructure also needs to be addressed. There are only six hydrogen fuel cell filling stations in the entire country.
“The development of hydrogen cars will start with public pilot projects and then move into mass production,” explained Jin Yin from Aerospace New Long March Electric Vehicle Technology Co. Ltd., a state-owned company with a focus on aircraft and new-energy cars.
