Clean Energy grows CNG network as Canadian fleets embrace natural gas
New fueling agreements and station openings in Western Canada support growing adoption of natural gas vehicles for freight, refuse and industrial operations.
Clean Energy Fuels has announced new fueling and maintenance agreements across Western Canada, alongside the expansion of its compressed natural gas (CNG) station network. The developments include new stations in Grande Prairie and Chilliwack through the company’s partnership with Tourmaline and the deployment of dozens of additional vehicles in British Columbia and Alberta.
The agreements come as operators increasingly adopt Cummins’ 15-litre X15N natural gas engine for heavy-duty and long-haul applications. According to Clean Energy, the new commitments span freight, logistics, refuse collection and oilfield services.
“Canada has a strong business case for natural gas. This is a demanding market, and the Cummins X15N engine closes the technology gap for fleets that haul heavy and put a lot of miles on the truck every year,” said Cody Brookwell, Director of Sales and Business Development at Clean Energy.
Among the companies expanding their natural gas fleets are Nortrans Freight Management, which ordered five additional X15N-equipped trucks after a pilot program, and Mullen Dedicated Logistics, which plans to add seven units. Environmental services providers GFL Environmental, Integrity Waste Solutions, Prairie Waste Solutions and Environmental e360 are also increasing deployments, while Reimer Brothers, Trican Well Service and Sniper Services are introducing the technology for the first time.
Environmental e360 will place 15 natural gas trucks in service in Chilliwack, using the newly opened CNG station. Caron Transportation Systems is adding five vehicles and upgrading maintenance facilities to support natural gas servicing.
With stations now operating in Edmonton, Calgary, Kamloops, Grande Prairie and Chilliwack, fleets have expanded access to CNG fueling infrastructure for regional, return-to-base and long-haul operations across Western Canada.
