Co-op Wholesale and motorway service operator Roadchef launched the first store under their strategic partnership, marking a major milestone in a broader rollout of eight new convenience locations across the UK.

The inaugural site transformed a former Spar-branded unit into a modern convenience store operating under the new ‘& Co-op’ fascia. This launch signals the public debut of the ‘Norton Canes & Co-op’ identity, a co-created retail concept designed to bring Co-op’s brand and product range to high-traffic roadside locations.

The ‘& Co-op’ branding—distinct from Co-op’s existing Nisa fascia and “Proud to stock Co-op” models—is part of a broader strategy to deliver flexible, partner-driven formats and will roll out more widely later in 2025.

The collaboration introduces Co-op’s own-brand products to motorway service areas, offering food-to-go, meal solutions, and essential convenience lines tailored for busy travellers. The store also includes self-checkouts and other digital innovations for a fast, user-friendly experience.

“The ‘& Co-op’ launch at Roadchef Norton Canes is more than a supply agreement—it’s a long-term partnership that enables us to bring the strength of the Co-op brand to millions of UK motorists. We’ve worked closely with Roadchef to create a unique offer tailored to each site,” said Katie Secretan, Managing Director of Co-op Wholesale.

The Norton Canes opening is part of a phased rollout, with additional ‘& Co-op’ stores to follow in the coming months. The concept is also being trialled with other retail partners, including Highland Group, as Co-op continues to refine the model based on operational performance and shopper insight.
