Colonial Oil acquires Atkinson Oil in Georgia
Transaction adds commercial fuels, lubricants and emergency supply capabilities to Colonial Oil’s portfolio.
Colonial Oil Industries has acquired Atkinson Oil Company, expanding its reach in commercial fuels and lubricants distribution across Georgia and strengthening its emergency fueling operations in the eastern and southern United States.
Atkinson Oil, an affiliate of Jet Food Stores of Georgia, is a long‑established distributor serving nearly 500 commercial customers in Georgia. The company is also known for its emergency fuel supply business, which supports regions affected by natural disasters.
Founded in 1987 following the acquisition of Pittman Oil in Sandersville, Georgia, Atkinson grew steadily over the following decades through both organic expansion and targeted acquisitions. The company added several regional distributors and evolved its business model to focus exclusively on fuel and lubricants distribution, divesting its retail service station operations along the way.
A key phase of expansion came after Atkinson Oil was acquired by Jet Food Stores in 2016. During that period, the business broadened its distribution footprint and added complementary activities, including Total‑branded lubricants distribution and disaster relief fueling services.
Jet Food Stores said proceeds from the transaction will be reinvested in the growth of its convenience retail network. Under Colonial Oil, the company is expected to continue operating as a platform for commercial fuels, lubricants and emergency energy services, reinforcing Colonial’s positioning in a market where reliability and scale are increasingly critical.
