Colruyt Group passes 150 stores with self-checkout
The Belgian retailer has installed 454 systems this year across its Okay, Spar and Bio-Planet banners, with 51 more stores planned for 2026 and further rollout in 2027.
Colruyt Group now has self-checkout in 150 stores after installing 454 systems across its Okay, Okay City, Spar and Bio-Planet banners in Belgium. The retailer plans to add the systems to 51 more stores in 2026 and to keep expanding in 2027.
Customers scan and pay for their own purchases, and staffed checkouts are still available. The setup has no exit gates, and a host is always present in the checkout zone to help. The rollout runs on Toshiba’s ELERA Self Service platform and hardware, with Datalogic scanners.
“In 2024, we started rolling out self-checkout at Okay, Okay City, Spar and Bio-Planet,” said Kris Vanbellingen of Colruyt Group. “A host is always present in the checkout zone to assist customers whenever needed.”
Vanbellingen also stressed that shoppers can always choose between self-checkout and a traditional checkout. “Service and the customer experience remain at the heart of everything we do at Colruyt Group,” he said.
